Okay, since this doesn't directly conflict with the TinyRC Shop...I'm going to sticky this thread.
Go ahead and post here any great deals you've found for the Puchi Maru (for a new kit)
The average street price is ~$85 (before shipping).
Alright, I'll start the fun...
Stormer Hobbies: All 4 types of cars, $59.95 (UPS $6.95)

Alright, I'm not gonna do all the work alone...Go to the Yokomo site and look in their Dealer listings (http://www.yokomousa.com/dealers.html)
Hunt through that list and that's how we'll find the deals (that's how I found Stormer)

LOL i found a better one on this site! its at rcmodels.com LOL $59.95 and free shipping LOL unfortunetly *I* didnt find this..... our man tympano was the one....
namuna, we should do this systematically.... in other words if you have gone through the whole Cali list and havent found a deal then tell us that youve gone through all that work.... and save us from wasting our time going though the califorina list:p
and do you know if stormer will accept MO??

Okay, so I am getting a silver Fit from Stormer. I will let you know how fast it gets here. I sent a money order, so it will take a bit more of time.
I'm going to drive it once, and then tear it apart and add the 3rd cell. I may change the rims, I think that's scary.

what! call all of them! of course not.... just the fews dousin or so... Actually They are $40 now, and they don't mention that they are in bad condition, but get this, it will cost $30 to ship to FL. GROUND! what are they on drugs?

I'm curious on how to set the frequencies on these cars? I've read that they have 6 different ones!

Wild03! Man it's been awhile since you've been around! Nice to see you come out again.
Now, as far as the frequencies go...It seems pretty straighforward on the PCB of the car, but in the TX the crystal is a little BRICK and I haven't gotten around to taking it apart to see if it's a little more simplified inside yet.
You might want to hold out until next month anyway, supposedly RadioShack is releasing the ZipZaps SE...Same scale, with Digi Propo steering! I'm eager to see what that's all about.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I've been super busy lately don't have time to run my cars anymore, I did order a mini RC boat to see how that goes on the lake here at work! :D
Wow, so radio shack is on the ball, that's nice that they are not dropping the ball on the mini RCs. I was curious about the frequencies because the marus don't list their frequencies on the descriptions, my guess was that you could set the frequency by moving a dial or something, that would be nice!
Good talking to you and GREAT work on the motor RPM post!

Are they any sites or closeouts anywhere for these (in North America)? None of the above no longer stock them.
Did Yokomo officially stop production in Japan? Or is this just lack of interest overseas?
Can't even find any on ebay.

I can't find any either - sorry.

I took a chance and emailed Yokomo about if they knew of any dealers that might still have any. That or if they had any refurbished from returns..
Thank you for your interest in Yokomo. Stormer and ehobbies were the only dealers I knew of that had any inventory of Puchi Maru cars. We haven't had any since last summer. Occasionally we get inquiries regarding them but I don't know of any still being available anywhere.
Darn, Darn, and double darn!

Try here:
<http://www.speedzoneusa.com/rc/carkits.htm>
$84.95 plus about $10 shipping (US dealer, too).
Lets you add it to the cart, so I assume they still have at least one.

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately at least for me thats too much. I realize that is still a little less than they were actually going for initially, but I was hoping for the clearance sales.
For those interested though, they have a note up front on the site that they are shipping for 7.95 for a limited time all r/c kits. Also, I have gone ahead and sent them a note to verify they still actually have those kits, and if they can give idea of some quantity they have left.

Thanks - let us know what they say.
Seems to me there would be a lot of used ones around. I just need one or two for the innards!

we have two Puchis that we no longer use. One is taken apart because I tried to fix the stuttering and the 2nd one works but the steering stutters at time. One of the charger plugs is also broken. If you want you can have both for less than half of what we paid ($80 for both) as is. Let me know, as we haven't used these things for a year and they are sitting in a box. --Lorne

I might take you up on that, but only if Potentiality doesn't want them. I already have two, so I am ok for now.

Ugh! $80 is a little (little? Ha!) much for me. Go grab them you two!
(BTW, I tried contacting that dealer, and have yet to get a response)

pot,
There is a guy on another forum that says he picked up a new one at his LHS for $40. I have never seen one that cheap before. I asked for a name, number, or web site but have not heard back yet. I'll post it here if I find out. But $40 is as good as you'll probably get. This isn't just a Bit clone you know!
strakka,
Looks like we might be out $40 or so!
lorne,
How do you want to handle this? PayPal maybe?
Thanks.
lornecherry
01-20-2004, 09:46 AM
..yes, I have paypal. email me at lecherry@rogers,com if you are interested so we can take this off-thread. If someone takes both cars ($80 as is) I'll throw in the shipping. -Lorne

I know, I know (the price point). If you can share that info (if he responds), I think I will call them to at least find out more details.
I guess another thing about the puchi is I have High quality JR FM radio. So I would be interested in attempting to use it instead (maybe less glitching?).
strakka
01-20-2004, 03:52 PM
i think the glitching happens when hair gets stuck in the gear box... atleast in my experience thats what its been ....
dgilpin, so $40 each? should i be mailing the money to you or to lornecherry? in anycase i wont be able to mail the money out until next monday....

The jittering did not seem to affect performance, though. It just did a little song and dance when sitting idle. I don't know if it is the transmitter or not - could be.

01-20-2004, 04:08 PM
strakka,
Could be a few dollars less and a little less hassle for lorne to have both shipped to one of us, and then ship the other on.
I'll check ups for postage to Toronto from here.

strakka,
Well that was a pain. I just picked M4B 1V4 for a postal code since I didn't know yours - it was the first Toronto code in the list.
UPS ground would be $9+ and US Postal Service would be $16+ best I can tell. That is for a single puchi sized box at 2 pounds.
strakka
01-20-2004, 05:34 PM
$9 USD? my postal code is L1N 2P2 if that helps... anyways... email me @ joshua_man@hotmail.com to work it out.... i think this is a little off topic ;)
